Winding Down
It is with a very heavy heart that we have to announce that the Endora project will be winding down as a fiscally sponsored non-profit at the end of May. This is especially difficult to write at a time when we are seeing more need for our work than ever. In the last year, countless independent researchers and journalists have had their funding and platforms whittled away, while fascism is steadily working its way into mainstream spaces. Unfortunately, with the combination of the dissolution of our fiscal sponsor, and the fact that we have not been able to secure consistent foundation funding, it feels both unsustainable and wrong to try to maintain the project on individual donations that are largely coming from the people we are trying to help.
It is pretty devastating to have to step back from this. We took a massive chance starting this project, taking a gamble that progressive organizations and their funders would want to keep each other safe. The work is so important, and there has finally been real cross-movement collaboration in the last few months that has yielded incredibly important information. That said, we have watched projects with larger platforms and more funding and infrastructure get squeezed out of this space, and the reality is that most people amassing a large amount of money are threatened by the work of independent researchers.
Our work will continue, as consultants, and through volunteer collaborations, but until a magical benefactor falls out of the sky, most of our work will be behind a paywall.
Thank you to everybody who has helped with the work, both in the last year, and leading up to Endora’s existence, and all the incredible people who have believed in this.
